Wright Way DC: Curator's Choice of Public Places and
Private Spaces

April 8-12, 2010

Daily Itinerary (subject to change)

Thursday, April 8
Kick off your sojourn with an in-depth tour and private reception at the Wright-designed Pope-Leighey House, a short, beautiful drive from central Washington.

Friday, April 9
Enjoy a leisurely walk down Embassy Row and learn about the Beaux-Arts grandeur of Washington’s Massachusetts Avenue. In the afternoon, take in the National Building Museum and tour the capital during the peak of cherry blossom season.

Saturday, April 10
Visit the Newseum, a 250,000-square-foot museum offering visitors the opportunity to explore five centuries of news. Then tour the stunning I.M. Pei wing of the National Gallery of Art, followed by a visit to the Kreeger Museum designed by Philip Johnson.

Sunday, April 11
Explore both of Wright’s hemicycle designs in the area, the privately-owned Louis Marden Residence (1952) and the privately-owned Elizabeth and Robert Llewellyn Wright Residence (1953). Tour the recently restored Marden Residence, built on a site overlooking the Potomac River that Wright originally selected for the Elizabeth and Robert Llewellyn Wright Residence. Enjoy a fascinating tour of the Elizabeth and Robert Llewellyn Wright Residence and grounds with Wright’s grandchildren as your guides.

Monday, April 12
Travel to Chevy Chase, MD to visit the DuGoff/Bor Residence, a privately-owned, Wright-inspired prairie style home. Listen as the homeowners discuss how they incorporated Wright’s principles of designing rooms to a human scale, horizontality and creating an open floor plan.
